The building in which TriAxon’s Head Office resides is designated as a heritage site. The former Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Building located on the corner of 1 st Street and 12th Avenue SW is the recipient of a Calgary Heritage Authority Lion Award in the Restoration, Rehabilitation, and Adaptive Reuse of Heritage Buildings Category. Nominated by the Victoria Crossing BRZ, the restoration is an excellent demonstration of how historical buildings can contribute to the revitalization process and add character to a neighborhood.
This south Calgary CIBC branch was completed in 1913 and although the architect is not identified, most of the bank's branches in this era were designed by the prestigious Toronto firm of Darling and Pearson. The three-storey brick building is faced in red brick, with substantial stone trim used for quoins, base, architrave and elaborate window surrounds. The design can best be described as an essay in the Georgian Revival style and it is an excellent example of this manner and of architectural design in Calgary. In 1952, a one store extension was added to the existing building from an adjoining property.
From 1991 onward, banking had ceased, being replaced by restaurants, retail and business offices. Forman's Fashion Group, currently located in the main floor and basement (and own the building), portrays the future of a vibrant retail district along
1st Street SW and the upper floors provide unique office space for TriAxon Resources Ltd.
